Now, I’m not even going to PRETEND I know Mandarin, so I’ll cop immediately to the fact that it’s not a completely accurate translation. Interesting fact – the transliteration of this version of “what the hell?!” in Chinese is “Gǎo shénme guǐ?!” Nearest I can figure, “shénme” means “what,” “guǐ” (sounds like “gwai”) seems to mean “ghost” by itself, but “hell” in this context, and “gǎo” is “do” or “is.” Actually, looking all this up has been fun!
